“Chrysalis was inspired by the women’s rights protests in Iran that started in 2022. With this piece I was reflecting on the violence and threat of harm that women have faced in their struggle to emerge from the strictures of their patriarchal society simply for the right to live their lives as they choose and even to dress as they choose. The name ‘Chrysalis’ comes from the thought that these struggles are a step on the path to change and to freedom.”
